What Are Different Types of Carpets?

Carpets are the ultimate asset to any room setting; they not only enhance the overall decor but also add a luxurious feel to the house or office. There are a large number of factors which govern the purchase of a carpet and one of them is the texture and the type. With the right amount of knowledge, you will be able to choose something that is perfect for your room setting and budget. The major types of carpets are:

1) Cut pile: This is a durable carpet which is created by cutting off the loops of fiber from the top. The tufts of fiber which are left behind form the surface of the carpet, these are resistant to crushing and the quality of the carpet is governed by the density of the tufts and the increasing twists of the fibers. Cut-piles are of the following types

a) Frieze: This type of cut pile is best suited for areas with a heavy rush of traffic and movement like workshops, playrooms, lounges etc.

The surface texture of the fibers is extremely curly and this minimizes any marks from being left on behind on it, whether footprints or vacuuming.
b) Saxony: This is a perfect choice for both your office and home; it consists of twisted cut piles, which have been set straight by application of heat giving it a more leveled look.
c) Plush: the luxuriously formal feel that these carpets provide makes them a very good choice for office use and to create a sophisticated look for the living room. These are generally very soft and have lightly twisted fibers.

2) Cut and Loop Pile: These consist of both cut and looped fibers. Its layers provide the carpet a sculpted look and are also great for hiding dirt and stains. Its of medium durability and adds a very attractive ambiance to the room

3) Level Loop piles: This carpet consists of loops of fabric which are at the same height. It's one of the most durable varieties and is used in offices and basements etc. Higher the density of the loops, better is the quality and it also resists dirt and dust from reaching the base of the carpet
